the deeper blue
when you lift up the corner
of the sky
a hundred foot drop
day-dreaming
seagull
mountain road
I drive from autumn
to winter
and catch a star sleeping
in a patch of snow
aspen candles
burning down
the mountain
you are the moss
that grows
on my north side
from the back porch
I can smell the reason
the lilacs hang on
dry river bed
waves of sand
remembering
up all night
camped out with you
waiting to see how the sun
sneaks back
to the mountain
scarecrow
trying to warn
the pumpkins
the windchimes
yelling
at the top of their voice
at the church bells
across the street
you are
the vanilla frosting on my finger
when no one's looking
leaves
falling in and out
of love
this quiet night
how the world
slows to a hush
and you can hear
what the stars have to say
slowly dripping
down a rocky road..
chocolate fudge night
the day I left
and said
all those mean things
then had to rent a truck
to take them all back
if this were the last night
I would pretend
you were the first star
the brilliant blue
of a day so deep
that even night bows
as it waits
for it to pass
indian summer
cherokee roses
surround my house
waiting for me
to come outside
one night
I am going to dream
so far
that I will have to take the train
back
the sun
slowly opens
the shadow of a gate
I find a bottle of stars
collected
by a firefly
middle of the night
what isn't sleeping
sings quietly
tiny thing
lands on my finger
and all of a sudden
I understand how careful
a god must be
sound of an arrow
shooting past the sun..
flock of geese
sorrows or lessons
the rain
doesn't care
staring at a leaf
until my mind
changes color
naked sky
the faint blush
of a maple tree
I'm somewhere
on a road
that goes nowhere
