Little Ones
I push up the switch
that starts his little sleeper rocking
He is a little human, and I am
not at all familiar,
except with
switches.
Even when I had one of my own,
it was only for a short while,
and while I remember things like
diapers in toilets
and frustration
and crying
I did not stay.
I am more familiar
with fur and claws
and whiskers
One of my furry babies
has come up to see the human one,
curious... and for a little bit, they are the same
both big and small in
their innocence.
The little human is smiling, looking up
for it is the only way he can
and it suits him,
those smiles.
My furry one looks him over
nose to cheek, sniffing his bottle
but leaving the milk in it for the
most helpless one,
because he is a good furry.
In smiles and eyes, and whiskers,
all moving back and forth, there is comfort
for both of the little ones,
and for me, too
as the furry and human ones leave to
find a nap hidden under
some blankets.
I put on soft guitar music for the little human
music to dream wide-eyed by
and for a few moments
there is gurgling and
paws and noses and
Peace On Earth.
